Manual Therapy
This is the base of our treatment approach. We use our hands for massage, gentle joint manipulation and muscle stretches.

Acupuncture
Is a way of tapping into your body’s healing processes. We are trained to use it gently and safely for muscle and joint pain problems in conjunction with other therapeutic techniques.

IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation)
IMS involves the using of sterile disposable needles to specifically target taut muscle bands that have contracted and become shortened from distress. The goal of treatment is to normalize the muscle, affected nerves and provide pain relief.

Sports Rehab
A detailed biomechanical assessment of runners, triathletes and golfers. This allows individualized treatment based on the root cause of the patient’s problem.

Real Time Ultrasound
Real Time ultrasound involves sending pulses of sound into the body and uses the reflections from the muscle and fascial interfaces to create an image. This cutting edge technology allows you to see if you are isolating your inner corset correctly and effectively. Once this most basic element of spinal stabilization has been established, these muscles are then integrated into functional or sport specific exercise. You will then be able to successfully incorporate hip, trunk and shoulder strengthening and flexibility into your program for effective prevention and rehabilitative exercise program for low back pain.

What is “Core stability”? Core stability refers to the strength and coordination of a group of muscles located deep in the Abdominal wall (Transverse Abdominus) and the back (Multifidus). These muscles form a corset and attach to each vertebrae in your lumbar spine. These deep muscles, along with your diaphragm and pelvic floor muscles, create an inner corset to provide stability and control for your lumbar spine.

Low back pain [LBP] or injury inhibits this inner stability corset, leaving the large muscles to attempt to stabilize the spine resulting in unnecessary and excessive spinal compression. As the demands on these large muscles increase (ie. running/walking) the compressive forces on the spine escalate. This poor lumbar stabilization strategy contributes to the recurrence of LBP and is a risk factor for future spinal degeneration and ongoing pain.

Breaking the LBP cycle and recovering from injury requires reactivation and isolation of the inner corset muscles.

A Real time ultrasound consultation would benefit anyone who:
  • Has suffered an acute low back, thoracic spine or sacroiliac (SI) joint injury
  • Has had chronic low back, thoracic spine or sacroiliac (SI) joint pain
  • Has had a baby and wishes to return to an exercise program
  • Has incontinence
  • Any athlete (regardless of level or age) who would like to see if they are recruiting their deep core muscles correctly

Capnography
How are you breathing?
Symptoms of altered breathing behaviour include:
  • Poor concentration
  • Dizziness
  • Chest tightness
  • Anxiety
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle tightness
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Headache

Poor breathing behaviour is a common reaction to stress and can result in hypocapnia (reduced levels of carbon dioxide). The effect of these changes is to reduce blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues resulting in a variety of symptoms often attributed to stress.

Capnography allows us to view and monitor the breath by tracking carbon dioxide levels. It can then be used as biofeedback to train good breathing behaviours. The effect on symptoms is dramatic; it is a powerful stress management tool that also assists with performance in athletic, academic and work-related environments. Sessions are performed by a physiotherapist trained in capnography.
