Ashley Smith
PT, PhD(c), FCAMPT, cGIMS
Ashley is the director and developer of the Calgary Whiplash Assessment & Diagnostic Laboratory. He pursues his clinical work through the Advanced Spinal Care Centre. Ashley is currently pursuing his PhD through the University of Queensland in Australia (as a remote student performing the research in Calgary, Alberta, Canada) after completing graduate studies in the Department of Community Health Sciences at the University of Calgary. His PhD is investigating the effects of peripheral pain generators on the physical and psychological presentation of chronic WAD patients. Ashley graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy (LaTrobe University, Melbourne, Australia). He made his way to Canada in 1996 and achieved his Fellowship in Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) in 2001. Ashley became certified in GunnIMS in 2000. Ashley has completed many courses to further understand the reasons for non recovery following motor vehicle collisions. He achieved certification in 2006 through the Spine Research Institute of San Diego (Motor Vehicle Crash Forensic Risk Analysis and Whiplash Brain Injury & Traumatology). In 2007, through American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME), he achieved CPAMAG designation. He is also a member of Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators. Ashley has been an invited speaker, and his peer-reviewed publications on the cervical spine have been accepted, at local, national and international conferences/congresses.
In conjunction with Mr. Geoff Schneider; Ashley developed 'The management of patients with Whiplash Associated Disorders course' in 2003 and have continued to evolve their course into a modular program involving evidence-based content from the physiotherapy and medical disciplines. |
